I am in a unique position to comment on this book as I was the copyeditor on it. Previous to this I could not reveal my opinions, but I am no longer employed by the company I worked for at that time, and ever since I read this piece of puke, I’ve wanted to tell somebody–anybody!–how horrific it is. Thom Weisel is a royal b**tard with an equally king-sized ego, and about 99% of the book is him bragging on himself.
Don’t think Brandt is the author–Thommy boy had his hands firmly on the reins the whole way through, BELIEVE ME BECAUSE HE MADE FIFTY THOUSAND CHANGES AT EVERY STAGE OF THE PUBLICATION PROCESS!!! Note also that almost every one of these changes was to make the book even more self-aggrandizing than it started out. If you love reading the inflated-headed ramblings of a narcissistic egotist, this one is for you, but if bloated self-smooching turns you off the least bit, prepare to never stop throwing up.
And now, for my final question: Why doesn’t he just sleep with Lance Armstrong and get it over with?
I feel so much better now!

The purpose of the book is to give a survey of the physics that is relevant for biological applications, and also to discuss what kind of biology needs physics. The book gives a broad account of basic physics, relevant for the applications and various applications from properties of proteins to processes in the cell to wider themes such as the brain, the origin of life and evolution. It also considers general questions of common interest such as reductionism, determinism and randomness, where the physics view often is misunderstood. The subtle balance between order and disorder is a repeated theme appearing in many contexts.
There are descriptive parts which shall be sufficient for the comprehension of general ideas, and more detailed, formalistic parts for those who want to go deeper, and see the ideas expressed in terms of mathematical formulas. – Describes how physics is needed for understanding basic principles of biology – Discusses the delicate balance between order and disorder in living systems – Explores how physics play a role high biological functions, such as learning and thinking.

Brian Tracy’s first dream was of a journey-not a leisurely drive to the beach or a weekend campout, but an unscripted adventure that would take him 17,000 miles from his home on Canada’s Pacific Coast all the way to South Africa. After a harrowing series of false starts and narrow escapes, he finally completed the odyssey that would change his life, and his way of thinking about life and business. The road to business success, he realized, is just as exciting and dangerous and rewarding as a trek across the Sahara.
In both business and life, succeeding-sometimes even surviving-requires vision, courage, persistence and the willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own actions.
Using his story as a metaphor for success in life and in business, Tracy shows how you can learn from similar life lessons the simple yet essential steps you can take for realizing the greatness within you and the full potential of your business.

This thoroughly revised and updated new edition of Mark Casson’s modern classic. The Entrepreneur presents a novel synthesis of the ideas of Joseph Schumpeter, Frank Knight and Friedrich Hayek, according to which the defining characteristic of the entrepreneur is the exercise of judgement in business decisions.
This pathbreaking volume argues that good judgement is based on a unique combination of information, and that this information is typically exploited by founding a ‘market-making’ firm, which links customers and suppliers who could not otherwise make contact with each other. This assessment of entrepreneurship, Mark Casson contends, has important implications for the growth of firms, social mobility and ‘enterprise culture’.
This second edition is essential reading for scholars of economics, management, business history and economic history. Academics from a wide range of economic schools of thought, both orthodox and heterodox, will find the book to be an original and outstanding work.

There are few absolutes in business, but here is one: Thriving businesses employ a superior team. No matter how great the idea, how strong the entrepreneur’s finances, how excellent the location, or how magnetic the advertising, the success or failure of the business rides on the quality of the workforce. And here’s another absolute: Long-term financial success depends on keeping effective employees from jumping ship. In this book, business veteran Ken Tanner guides entrepreneurs through the three critical components of staffing a business—recruiting, teambuilding, and retention. As he shows time and again through advice, anecdote, and example, solving these challenges is like adding rocket fuel to the entrepreneurial business.
Yet new business owners tend to take a lax view of personnel issues. They hire the first person who walks through the door or interview using a canned sheet of questions snagged from the Internet. Teambuilding consists of showing the new employee where to sit and who to go to for answers. And retention? What’s that? The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Hiring and Building the Team begins by helping entrepreneurs understand why staffing is so important. Then it guides them through the entire process of recruiting to attract top-notch talent to the budding organization. But that’s only the start, Tanner maintains. It’s critical to get these talented people to work together to drive the business, and it’s equally critical to keep each employee challenged, motivated, and satisfied—the keys to retention.
